Description
Ashwathama is a significant figure in the Indian epic Mahabharata. He is the son of Dronacharya, the royal guru of the Kauravas and Pandavas, and Kripi. Known for his exceptional skills in warfare and deep knowledge of military arts, Ashwathama was one of the seven Chiranjivi (immortal beings in Hindu tradition) due to a boon granted to him by Lord Shiva.
During the Kurukshetra War, Ashwathama fought on the side of the Kauravas. He is infamous for his act of revenge on the Pandavas after the war, when he attacked their camp at night and killed the sons of the Pandavas, mistaking them for the Pandavas themselves. As a punishment for this act, Lord Krishna cursed Ashwathama to wander the earth for 3,000 years, suffering from severe wounds and social ostracism, yet unable to die, thus embodying his tragic immortality.
